SWTOR: Mark Your Calendars

September 24, 2011

Release Date: December 20th, 2011

Edit: And the updated Star Wars: The Old Republic “Fate of the Galaxy” trailer with the release date shown triumphantly at the end. I always thought something felt missing after that rising crescendo finale, now it’s much better!

  1. I hope your husband is playing it as well, or there may be marital issues!

    • But of course, we do all our MMOs together! Remember, spousal leveling contract! ;)

      • Hehe, now Sctrz and I have a spousal leveling contract. XD

      • Could you send me a copy, I will need it to save mine!

  2. I knew I was getting psyched up this week for a reason!

  3. Damn you’re fast to the presses! I have the last week of December off. This is great timing for me!

    • I thank the dog for getting me up early today, I had to take him to the vet to get his sutures out :P

Like I said, I was actually waiting on the beta email, but the release date email was a nice surprise too!

  4. Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes!

I had to check here first just to see if you had heard the wicked news.lol

Check out my blog later, MMOGC – I’m going to post a celebration blog the likes of which I can barely conceive.

I knew one day I would have a use for all those crazy links…

    • LOL will do, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ll have in store.

That said, I had that Coruscant celebration picture saved for months waiting for this day as well :P

  5. I almost wish I hadn’t told my family I’m coming home for Christmas now.

    • I don’t even know my Christmas plans yet, but ah well, whatever happens the game will always be there :)

  6. Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, ugh i’ve waited so long for this confirmation, i can finally exhale and say, “Damn, this is gonna be the longest 3 months of my life :(“

    • Yeah, it’s going to be a long 3 months, but at least there’s an actual date to look forward to now. The end is in sight, take heart!

  7. Yes, it’s being released a whole FOUR FREAKIN’ DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS! What were they thinking? It’s coming out in the worst part of the Christmas shopping rush. This will make those 4 days and boxing day an even more horrific hell for store employees anywhere this game is sold. I am not touching it until January for that exact reason. Christmas is disgustingly materialistic enough as it is without crap like this. I’m eager to play, but their marketing department has gone on this Santa’s naughty list.

    • At this point in time, shopping nightmares are not going to be an issue.

I’ll explain the reasoning behind this statement.

SWTOR’s launch is staggered; BioWare has a number already drawn up (or they will once they get a fully tight grasp on just how much load their servers can support). Once the sales reach that number, they’ll shut it down, until such time as the launch smooths out and they can add more servers for another wide launch.

SWTOR’s pre-order numbers, adding up the data from VGChartz and the forums, looks to be sitting at something between 1.5-1.7mil pre-orders already. This was all before a release date, even. Now that SWTOR has one, this next week is going to tell us a lot about how close BioWare are to that magic “close the gates” number.

Considering the launch date is 3 months away, I’m pretty sure they’ll reach their cutoff number well before they hit December.

At this moment, CE’s are nearly impossible to come by at the normal retail price. There are copies floating around Amazon, but they’re selling for upwards of $399, last I checked.

The demand for this game is staggering. Please, mark my words: DO NOT DELAY.

It is entirely possible you will miss the first train if you don’t pre-order. Once BioWare hits that magic number (probably close to 3mil, if that), the gates are going to close and the train is leaving – with or without you.

      • I really hope the staggered approach works out for BioWare. At least this way they’ll have some control over balancing out the servers and having enough to support the huge population loads they’ll be seeing the first few days.

I preordered my copy and entered the code within minutes of the announcement, so I’ll probably be among the first wave — that said, we’ll probably be the guinea pigs :P

I look forward to seeing the preorder stats after this week, now that the release date is announced.

    • Yes, I don’t deny it’s going to be nuts. I wouldn’t be surprised if the news of the release date so close to Christmas is probably driving even more sales to Origin and their digital editions.
