T'Androma, back in the captain's chair.
Yesterday, I reactivated my Star Trek Online subscription, as planned. I’d been waiting for a reason to re-sub, and Season 2 is it. The update probably won’t go live until closer to the end of the month, but I wanted a chance to update the client and get myself reacquainted with the game controls before that happens.
I hadn’t planned on logging into the Tribble test server — as much as I was looking forward to the new content, it didn’t make much sense to spoil it for myself before it even has a chance to go live — but the day happened to mark the beginning of another Tribble Test Weekend, and heaven knows I’m a sucker for free in-game rewards. I plan to test what I can without going overboard, and hope it’ll be enough to obtain the “surprise” Tribble.
On the test server tonight, I had just enough time to start the first couple of Undine missions and fight my way to their native realm. And I have to say, I am absolutely floored by Cryptic’s take on Fluidic space — it’s beautiful, it’s enchanting…and just a little trippy. And just as I’d gotten used to the flight controls again, those sneaky “Trikes” and their new abilities give me a run for my money. I have a feeling the Undine story is going to be the most interesting one yet.
Like someone spilled a little water into sector space.
I am also truly amazed at how much the Season Two: Ancient Enemies update will be bringing to STO. Tomorrow, I plan to pop into Tribble again to try my hand at some diplomacy. There’s more to life than running into a fight guns blazing, and it’s time for Admiral T’Androma to learn something about the delicate art of negotiation. Subtlety has never been her strong suit, so here’s hoping she doesn’t spark any galactic wars with her Vulcan candor.
Back on the live Holodeck server, I went ahead and bought the Mirror Universe uniforms (evidently, great minds think alike!) which I’d been dying for ever since I found out they were being offered in the C-Store. But oh no, it was never intended for my captain…

Hah, yes Sleer looks awesome. It’s a shame the uniforms aren’t more easily swapped. I’d be more excited about the Series uniforms.
I wish you could give your officer costume slots too…that’s not in the game and I just missed it, is it?
Sounds like fun. Those uniforms are pretty snazzy looking, I was reading about them the other day.
Yes, they made a lot of the exclusives available in the C-Store. I was also debating the Next Generation costumes, but I think I’m out of points.

Welcome back to STO, sounds exciting with the update to the game since last I played. Hmm may have to get my Admiral on his deepspace odyssey to come back from retirement at some point. Just have to find that Wormhole back to the alpha quadrant.
It would be great to see you back in the captain’s chair. Seems like it’s a great time to return.
Hmm, I might need to give STO a shot sometime soon if it’s getting the MMOGamerChick thumbs up of approval! Never fancied it much before in the past but I’m growing more tired of WoW recently and fancy a break. Is there a free trial?
I think there’s a trial out there, and I also think veterans have a recruit program that will be able to help you out. Let me know if you’re interested.
I think STO is a decent game, perfect if you’re looking for a casual MMO to play around with, but not if you’re looking for much more. The space combat is fun, great to keep one occupied for a few hours per week 🙂
There’s a free trial, but it’s locked to the tutorial and very first episode mission. It’s unfortunate since you really don’t get a good feel for the game until you hit level 11 and get out of the starter ship.
I love STO, i just have no friends who play and everyone’s so damn quiet in parties! I’m too lively for that, i’ll coe back, but someone would hav eto promise to be my friend and guide me through my subtle noobiloscity.
I think when Season 2 goes live, we’ll be seeing an influx of returning and new players. How long that will last, I have no idea (I myself only plan to resub for a month or two 😛 I consider STO an ultra casual game, after all) but if you do decide to jump back in, let me know.
Yeah the one thing i wonder about STO is how much more hardcore it’s trying to get. When i was phasing out, they were implementing things like ship damage, and crew injuries, trying to fix memory alpha and such, but i just kept saying to myself.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me.”Probably because i can’t get half of the things i should be delving myself into. I’m a WoW guy, used to min-maxing and knowing the best stuff and how it will effect my class. But it seemed like no matter how i specc’d myself, or my Boffs or my ship, missions were pretty easy, and even when the going got tough, i could always come back. Lol it’s bizarro to me, and i feel like the only thing that’d make it fun is playing with people who also enjoy it and KINDA take it seriously, not serious serious, but having fun serious.
That, and i need to hit level cap quickly, but all the re-rolling i keep pulling has kept me no higher than LT.Commander 6 or 7 i think.
Yeah they have also added a difficulty slider, for those folks who want to live on the edge. I don’t play STO particularly to give myself a challenge, so I’m fine with playing the game as is without making it more difficult for myself. I’m not really looking to min-max, dissect my spec or theorycraft the perfect boff set up, but I do want to play well so I take it seriously enough without going too overboard…definitely not to the point I did with WoW…lol 🙂
