TSW: Dark Days Are Here

June 30, 2012

I have to agree with Syp on this one — Funcom lets you make some pretty freakin’ hot female characters.

Well, at least I think mine’s also looking quite attractive. I asked my husband what he thought, and also my dad and my brother who are in town at the moment, and since the three of them agreed as well, I’m just going to go with that. However, I don’t understand why in order to have long hair in an MMO, you often have to settle for that saucy, windswept look.

Meet Tamerlaine “Laeyn” Berard. Wait, I think I got that right. Ironically, I went through all this trouble yesterday coming up with a name for RP purposes, going so far as to spend an hour on the internet doing research and getting ideas, but now I can’t even remember exactly what I decided. My brother prefers to just call her “the grad student”.

The server is Arcadia and the faction is Templar. I was really surprised yesterday when I looked around and saw what appeared to be way more people I know playing The Secret World than I expected, like quite a few more than the 3 or 4 I’d originally thought.

Anyway, this led to a handful of us from the Republic Mercy Corps forming a cabal called the Knights of Mercy. It was made mostly for social purposes, in order to provide us and our friends a network and a home while we’re in TSW. Star Wars: The Old Republic will continue to be our main game, and come the end of August I think most of us will also be looking forward to playing a certain MMO.

But if you’re interested in a casual play style and don’t mind being around a bunch of crazy people (but seeing as our ranks have already swelled, apparently you all don’t mind the crazy), feel free to look us up in game. Give me a holler here with your character name, or keep an eye out for the folks with invite privileges: Paganrites, Eleison, Nadea, and of course me, Laeyn.

Update: Yeti and Tarantella are also now amongst those with invite privileges.

  1. What’s with the hair? Does she have a hideous disfigurement behind that?

    • I’m telling you, the best long haired choice available was emo hair!

  2. Add Yeti and Tarantella to those with invite priviliges. As a certain game journalist in our ranks stated, TSW could become a sleeper hit. Quests that require you to use your brain, puzzles that lead to hair loss and desk induced forehead bruises, kept me playing until the wee hours of the morning.

Also I thought your avatar was HAWT!

    • Thanks, post edited.

And of course you’d think that, your character just so happens to look like the twin of my character, but male 😛

  3. Why is it that in so many games you just have to settle for the least bad hairstyle?

    • Yeah, and you’d think there would be more female hairstyles available as choices in most of these games too.

  4. I’ve accepted the fact that non-Asian MMO’s are incapable of making attractive looking female characters.

    • LOL! I still try to do my best.

    • SWTOR has great looking female avatars imo.

  5. Oh… I’m on arcadia too.. but Illuminati.. Can I still join or do we all have to be of the same faction?

    • I think you have to be the same faction but I don’t know. I hope someone can clarify. Otherwise I may roll templar so I’m not lonely even if they are my third choice :p. Does faction matter much anyway? Are there different stories or just different starting areas?

      • Yes, unfortunately Cabals are faction locked. It’s something I hope will be changed in the future, but still right now you are able to group with any faction while doing quests or dungeons.

Other than not being able to be in the same cabal or on the same side for pvp, there really isn’t much difference that I can see beyond the intro and starting areas. Though, the faction NPCs you interact with will be different and have their own unique flavor. Templars turn in their quests by phone to Sonnac, for example, and I love his dry wit. I believe the Illuminati’s contact is Kristin Geary, and apparently she’s a riot too.

  6. Gave this game a 1-day spin with help from a buddy pass on a gaming community site. I was remarkably surprised and impressed. The storyline is very compelling, the combat satisfying, the character development interesting. I wish the system optimization was a little better (it prompted me to finally upgrade my much-needed Graphics Card), but other than that – wonderful.

Thanks for the Cabal invite last night, you’ll see me running around as Charonne “Psonja” Leigh.

  7. […] I found a great game AND a great home – MMOGamerChick’s “Knights of Mercy” cabal is filled with bloggers and other just genuinely nice, mature people. So happy to be a part of it […]
