Remembering River (A High Latency Life)

June 11, 2014

Today, I am saddened by the news that one of my long time gamer/blogger friends passed away earlier this week. Christopher “River” Cavelle, also known to many of us as @theeriver on Twitter, was part of the first wave of bloggers I met when I started out with MMOGamerChick four years ago. He was one of the many friendly and passionate gamers that welcomed me to the MMO blogosphere and made it such a fun place to be.

I am still shocked. And heartbroken. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Riv’s last post was about getting into the World of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor alpha. I’m sad we won’t be able to play together and it’s hard to think about not being able to talk WoW with him ever again. I might have only known him online, but he has made an impact on me, and it won’t be the same without him.

This is for you, River. We’ll miss you.

  1. He was the first person to follow & comment on my blog. Wow, so sudden šŸ˜¦

    • He was one of the first I connected with as well, what a great and open and friendly person he was.

  2. I have WildStar open in the background.. reading this, a track I hadn’t heard yet started playing in Galeras. It’s all strings.. it’s swelling, and bittersweet.

    • I have to listen to that still…but it sounds quite appropriate.

  3. I’m sorry for your loss, Steph.

  4. Sorry for your loss. Was he an avid WoW player? WoW has a few memorials to players in game that passed away. Might be something Blizzard can do to honor him. I wouldn’t even know where to start in getting that suggested.

    • Yeah he was, and I think I saw on twitter that someone had written to Blizzard about that.

  5. I didnt know him but I know the feeling. Im sorry for your loss :/
