December 2, 2014

Battle BardsA new episode of Battle Bards is up!

While Syp, Syl and I did a Wildstar episode back in show #6, we felt as though we didn’t do that soundtrack justice (not the least of which was the fact that we didn’t have access to the full OST yet!).  Now that the Bards have listened to almost 200 WildStar tracks, it’s time to pull their favorites and discuss this wild, zany musical romp!

A new episode of Battle Bards is up!

This week we welcome a special guest to our show, Composer Tracy W. Bush! His resume includes World of Warcraft, DCUO, Dungeon Runners, Tabula Rasa, Free Realms, and City of Heroes and his vast experience in the MMO industry makes him a wealth of information about the musical creative process. He’s also known for his Murloc voice (yep, he’s the man behind the iconic “mrglmrglmrglmrgl!!!!”) and you just might hear Tracy do a demonstration. Unfortunately, I was out of town during the week of recording so I wasn’t able to join in the fun, but Syp and Syl do a good job holding the fort!

September 16, 2014

Battle Bards

A new episode of Battle Bards is up!

A good D&D session doesn’t only need character sheets and an abundance of 20-sided dice, but atmospheric tunes as well.  What kind of soundtrack does the long-running Dungeons & Dragons Online have?  Syp, Syl and I investigate DDO’s score this week, in particular contrasting the old tracks with the newer expansion ones.  As usual, Syp stands mostly alone (oh, he’s so dramatic :P)

Battle Bards Episode 34: Feature That Instrument!

August 26, 2014

Battle Bards

A new episode of Battle Bards is out!

We have an interesting theme for you this week. If you’re a regular listener of BB, you might know that sometimes Syp, Syl and I like to talk about the instruments in the different pieces and we all have our individual favorites (and seriously, like what is up with Syp and the kazoo?!)

Anyway, inspired by those discussions, this episode is all about those tracks where a single instrument (or two) will take the forefront in a song and steal the spotlight. So move over orchestral pieces, and feast your ears on these tunes that feature a dominant instrument.
